About Us

Established originally as the Outpost Volunteer Fire in 1975, the Pittsburg Volunteer Fire Department proudly serves the Pittsburg, Missouri community with dedication and commitment. As a fully volunteer organization, our team of highly trained firefighters and emergency responders is driven by a shared passion for protecting lives and property.


Our Purpose


The purpose of the Pittsburg Volunteer Fire Department is to provide fire protection and a medical first responder team, to the best of our ability, to those individuals, businesses, organizations having life or property within Pittsburg, MO, within our response area and to provide mutual aid to other entities when legally requested.


Pittsburg Volunteer Fire Department within reason will respond to any and all fire, emergency medical, auto accident, natural or manmade disasters to members or non-members within our area. We strive to ensure the safety and well-being of Pittsburg’s residents through prompt, professional, and compassionate service.


Our History


Since our founding, we have grown and evolved to meet the changing needs of our community. From our humble beginnings as the Outpost Volunteer Fire to our current equipment and training programs, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to excellence.


Our Service Area


The Pittsburg Volunteer Fire Department serves the citizens and businesses in our service area, providing fire protection and working with Hickory County Fire & Rescue to provide medical assistance to those in need. Our collaborative efforts ensure comprehensive and effective emergency response for all.


Collaborative Efforts


We work hand-in-hand with Hickory County Fire & Rescue to ensure a comprehensive emergency response. Additionally, we hold automatic aid agreements for structure fires with Preston Volunteer Fire Department and Urbana Volunteer Fire Department, fostering a strong network of support and cooperation to better serve our community.


Community Involvement


As a volunteer fire department, community involvement is at the heart of what we do. We work closely with local organizations and businesses to promote fire safety and education. Our volunteers participate in various community events and initiatives, strengthening the bond between our department and the residents we serve.
